Drum-making mostly
interests me as the materials used to make it are very natural. The
drums area clearly of Sri Lanka because its materials come from the
wild. I enjoy that each drum has a different purpose and culture
attached to it, and that is the feel I would like to bring to my design,
culture.
After thorough research on many different crafts and materials, I have decided to employ a technique used in drum making, which is tensiling.Doing some research on tensiling has shown me different ways of incorporating it in an interior, be it through furniture, walls, ceilings, or even installations. It has also taught me about the materials most suitable for using this technique. In this case, to evoke a more natural and traditional feel, I have decided to use three materials, timber, leather, and rope.
